Droppie is a consumer recycling platform that combines a user-friendly app with a physical recycling store in Amsterdam. The platform is designed to help consumers recycle more effectively by offering small rewards for their recycled materials. These materials are then processed by Droppie's partners, who support optimizing their recycling processes.

Launched six months ago, Droppie's mission is to make recycling easier but also enjoyable and rewarding for consumers, thereby driving behavioral change in household waste management.

Stef Traa, co-founder of Droppie, shares how the idea for Droppie came from his daily experiences in Amsterdam, where he often saw litter and household waste scattered across the streets.

"I realized that much of this waste still holds value, and we needed to find a way to capture that value while making the process easier and more engaging for consumers."

The challenge

As a first-time founder, Stef faced the daunting task of developing a consumer application from scratch. The complexity of building a robust, user-friendly platform required a skilled team of developers and designers – a team that he knew would be difficult to assemble on his own.

"In the Netherlands, it's hard to find the right talent, especially with the flexibility we needed in terms of hours and engagement."

Droppie needed to scale its team rapidly but lacked the internal resources and hiring capabilities to do so. The challenge was clear: they needed a partner who could quickly provide top-tier talent with the exact skill sets required to build their platform.

"We were looking for a UI/UX designer and two developers, frontend and backend, to help us build a platform. We knew it would be pretty challenging to find these roles ourselves because we didn't have any hiring capabilities either." This challenge was compounded by the pressure to develop and launch the platform within a tight timeframe.

Stef says the impact of these hires extended beyond mere development. They didn't just execute tasks – they played a pivotal role in guiding the app's direction and the company's digital strategy.

"The impact on the team has been great. We had very strong hires through the platform. We onboarded professionals who really helped guide us towards a solid solution."
